DMVR Showcases EXOTIC Cars at
Wings Wheels and Water Festival!

(Sep. 28, Des Moines) Cub DRIFTING reporter Lucy Lugnut noted that the local SCCA Region (DMVR) had a marvelous display of dual-purpose street and autocross cars, SCCA Club racing vehicles and some exotic vehicles on display Saturday and Sunday, September 25 & 26 at the inaugural "Wings, Wheels and Water Festival" held at the Ankeny Exposition Park. Countries represented by the cars in the club display included the U.S., Britain, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Sweden. The club also had a nice display of the photo history of DMVR as seen at last year's annual meeting. Visitors to DMVR's tent were told about the upcoming Wicked Witches Way Rallye as well as upcoming autocross events.

DMVR Display at WW&W Festival

Autocrossers Ric Johnson, Rick Talbot, Cal North, Ron Foote, Devin Schmacker, Ed Logan, Rich Howe, Jon Payne, Jon Irwin all brought their cars, and together with club racing vehicles from Russ Goodsell, Frank Ince, Dick Minnich/Harlan Donaldson, Mike Trier, and Ray Yergler made up the DMVR display under a 30' x 60' tent adjacent to the main entrance. Lyle Kreps also brought out his Innocenti Mini and Dave & LaDonna Walker displayed their Mini-Moke. Marv Zach had his race trailer adjacent to the DMVR tent and displayed a SCCA Spec Racer, custom S-15 Pickup, Marv’s cherry '56 Chevy Bel Aire and Tom Juckette's gorgeous Cobra Daytona Replica. Big thanks go to all of those who spent a major part of their weekend in promoting the club and its activities!

In addition to the above vehicles, knowledgeable pre-Speed Freak age visitors to DMVR's display also spotted James Bond's car (the Mini), two of Austin Power's vehicles (Ric's MGB and Ron's MGB GT proudly displaying the Union Jack), and a Viper with custom electronic radio antenna (Rick's Miata without radio attenna attached). Many smiling young faces were photographed by parents as they proudly sat in various club cars. Such young automobile enthusiasts are prime prospects for future DMVR membership.

Many DMVR members came out to the tent to help explain the club's activities to the hundreds of visitors who stopped in to view our display. In addition to those displaying vehicles, they included Ron & Monica Shaw,Tony Siembieda, and Bob & Judy Eddy. Special thanks goes to Paul Hohlfeld and Triad AV Services for supplying needed A.V. and display equipment and transporting it to and from the site, and to Ric Johnson for leading the coordination efforts on behalf of DMVR with local promoters Scott and Jeanne Smith and John McLaughlin of TV8 weather fame. Monica Shaw updated the Club's informational brochure and provided the Club’s motorsports videos which played continuously on two VCRs, Wes Krause rounded up stanchions and Marina Kraft supplied photo boards from last year's annual meeting.

The event was a fine informational display of DMVR's local motorsports activities which will hopefully generate increased awareness of the Club and result in some potential new members checking out upcoming year-end events.
