Introduction

The Des Moines Valley Region was founded by 30 sports car enthusiasts on January 27, 1958 as Region 76 of the Sports Car Club of America . SCCA LogoToday, as we celebrate 50 years of fun, DMVR is a very active group of around 300 individuals who share a variety of interests in motorsports. While most of our members reside in the central and western portion of Iowa that the Region encompasses, we do have a number of members in other areas of Iowa and across the US and Canada. DMVR members are active in a wide range of motorsport and social activities. You'll find a brief summary of some of those activities below. Click on any of the highlighted text for additional information on specific subjects.

If you are interested in becoming a member of DMVR and the SCCA please contact our Membership Director Ralph Johnson at 515-255-6505 or any other member of the Board of Directors , or use our Feedback Form . You can also download a membership application from our Membership page . If you'd like to meet us in person, guests are always welcome at our monthly membership meetings which are held the first Tuesday of the month (except December) at 7:30 PM in the upstairs meeting room at Noah's Ark Ristorante, 2400 Ingersoll Avenue in Des Moines, and at our monthly events

Local Events

Solo (Autocross)

One of the best ways to become a better driver, and to get the thrill of competition with your own car without the dangers of wheel to wheel racing. Solo events test your car control talents and ability to find your car's limits in single car, electronically timed runs on a miniature road course.  Click here for more information on DMVR's Solo Events and this season's schedule and event results.

Other Community Involvement

Each year, DMVR also participates in, or assists with, a variety of other community events. While most of these are related to automobiles in some way with events like the Ruan Greater Des Moines Grand Prix, the Street Survival teen driving school, the Arthritis Foundation Mini Grand Prix, Johnston Green Days, Motor Ioway 1000, the Salisbury Automobile Classic, and the Wings, Wheels and Water Festival, our expertise has also been utilized for activities completely unrelated to our core activities. We've even had Hollywood ask us to lend a hand! Click here to find out more about our community projects.

Racing Competition

Race Officials

Becoming an SCCA licensed race official is a great way to get close to the action at permanent and temporary road racing circuits. The DMVR Road Runners provide management and support for amateur and professional road races both here in the Midwest and across the country. Click here for more information on race working.

Club Racing

SCCA Club Racing is door to door amateur road racing competition on permanent circuits around the country. If you'd like to get involved as a driver or a crew member click here for more information.

Other Membership Benefits

In addition to all the above, DMVR also hosts or participates in a number of other activities over the course of a year. Picnics and parties, car displays and shows, meetings and group outings, and even a pre-State Fair scavenger hunt and an occasional Pinewood Derby race for our younger (and young at heart) members. Membership in DMVR also brings two fine publications; the monthly SCCA national magazine "SportsCar" and DMVR's own "Drifting". And finally, SCCA members are protected with the best insurance program in motorsports at no extra charge, as well as having access to special SCCA discount programs on travel, lodging, car rentals, electronics, racing school, food, flowers and more. If you'd like more information than you find here please use our Feedback Form, or contact any member of our Board of Directors and we'll be happy to answer any question. Are you ready? Click here for more membership information and a downloadable membership application.
